DIY Satin Scrunchies
DIY Sewing Project
Looking to add a touch of summer fun to your DIY projects? Look no further than making your own scrunchies! Not only are they easy to make, but they also make for great gifts for friends or a fun way to put your hair up during the summertime. Let’s explore how you can create these stylish accessories with just a few simple steps.
The items you will need for this project:
- Fabric (17 inch x 2 inch)
- Elastic (10 inch)
- Bodkin or Safety Pin
I used 2mm round elastic or any type of elastic will do.
Fabric. You can find this satin fabric that I use in my blog here. It is a part of the Vintage Hawaii Hibiscus collection in my Spoonflower shop. I used a Fat Quarter.
Cut your fabric to 17 inches x 2 inches.
Pick one end and fold the top of the fabric in on the wrong side of the fabric.
Fold the fabric in half and pin in place.
Pin and sew a straight line.
Tip, if you are sewing with Satin like I am here, I changed out my needle head to a smaller one. I used SINGER universal size 80/12. I also used a satin thread that you can purchase at any craft store.
Sew a straight line. Because I was working with satin, there was a lot of fraying so I decided to use the zigzag stitch to hold the edges.
Use the Bodkin and safety pin to turn the scrunchie inside out. If you dont have a bodkin, you can use the safety pin.
I purchased this bodkin from DAISO for about $1.25. I love it and highly recommend it.
This is what the set up I used looks like. The safely pin helps keep the bodkin in place.
Place the unfinished end into the folded end.
Top stich on top over the elastic and then you’re done!
All done! Congratulations on finishing your scrunchies! These make great gifts for cousins and friends at school.
Enjoy!
